Position Summary: Individuals in this role work across departments to lead the development of cost-competitive renewable projects within the Carolinas. This role will lead the development of greenfield projects (primarily solar and solar paired with storage), evaluate project acquisitions and lead acquisition transactions. They will manage development through feasibility, stakeholder engagement, site investigation, interconnection studies, local discretionary permitting, procurement of equipment and construction services and support projects through construction. This position requires a broad understanding of the renewable industry landscape, strong development/project management skills, technical skills, financial understanding, proven negotiating skills, and an ability to balance competing factors in a dynamic market environment. This role requires knowledge and skill in interconnection procedures, federal incentive programs, electricity market pricing and risk-management, policy engagement, land origination, financial modeling, and energy market analysis. They will have an understanding of key renewable project capital and operating costs and the drivers of project economics, and the ability to optimize project performance. They will lead portions of development projects with significant accountability for project performance. Responsibilities: Lead the development of renewable projects, post execution of site control agreements, including all site investigation studies, local discretionary permitting (rezoning/special use permit), interconnection study process and procurement of owner furnished equipment and EPC services. Evaluate third-party project acquisition proposals and lead transaction contracting through closing. Manage and lead a portfolio of renewable projects from origination to pre-construction and then support through construction and operations. Ensures business goals and objectives are accomplished through effective negotiations, communication, and work monitoring. Prepares thorough and accurate project documentation related to any development initiative. Develops positive working relationships using effective oral and written communication skills while representing the company in a positive and professional manner. Strives to continually improve renewable development processes, procedures and performance. Required/Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting or Other Related Degree. In addition to required degree, four (4) or more years related work experience. In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s) AND four (4) or more years related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND seven (7) or more years related work experience. Additional Preferred Qualifications Proven negotiation experience with associated skills and results. Financial and/or renewable project financial modeling experience and fluency with financial concepts (IRR, NPV, time value of money, etc.). Advanced written and interpersonal communication skills. Advanced problem solving, project management and implementation skills. Working Conditions Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility. Office with periodic travel for site visits, stakeholder engagement and permitting hearings. Ideal location is Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC based.
