The pay range is $163,000.00 - $294,000.00 Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and in some instances may include education, work experience and certifications. You will translate the enterprise vision for a modern, cloud-native, AI-enabled data ecosystem into practical architectures and solution designs that deliver measurable business outcomes. Your work will ensure Target’s data platform is not only technically robust but also designed for trust, usability, and scale—empowering teams across the enterprise to access, understand, and act on data with confidence. You will partner closely with architect and engineering leaders to design solutions that modernize Target’s data foundation, simplify complexity, and accelerate innovation. This role is ideal for a strategic problem solver who can connect architecture to execution—bridging data strategy, technical design, and business enablement. As a bridge between architecture, engineering, product, and experience, you will connect long-term strategy to practical design. As the Principal Solution Designer, you will translate vision into end-to-end solution designs and technical roadmaps—ensuring strategy becomes reality through scalable, high-quality, and business-aligned solutions. Solution Design and Architecture: Lead end-to-end solution design for the modern, cloud-native data platform, ensuring alignment with enterprise architectural principles and technology direction - balancing speed, scalability, and cost efficiency. Translate the enterprise data strategy and architectural blueprints into actionable, scalable, and secure solution designs across ingestion, storage, processing, analytics, and AI/ML activation layers. Embed architectural patterns that support real-time, event-driven, and AI-augmented solutions. Partner with data scientists, product, and engineering teams to power real-time, predictive, and prescriptive insights. Platform Modernization and Delivery: Partner with engineering teams to deliver designs with excellence, reliability, and measurable business impact. Advance Target’s data ecosystem through interoperable, reusable, and observable solutions. Drive adoption of GenAI-enabled capabilities and automation within the modern data platform. Data Quality and Governance by Design: Embed governance, metadata, and lineage standards into every solution to enhance trust, compliance, and discoverability. Design for self-service analytics and consistent data experiences across business domains. Partner with governance teams to uphold enterprise standards for data quality and responsible AI. Collaboration and Mentorship: Partner with enterprise architects and senior leaders to ensure alignment with long-term strategy. Mentor solution designers and engineers, elevating solution quality and design thinking across the org. About you: 4-year degree or equivalent experience. Continuing education to maintain thorough knowledge of technical domains along with staying current in latest technologies 12+ years of experience in solution architecture and technology development with deep expertise in data platforms, cloud ecosystems, and enterprise-scale integrations 4+ years of experience in strategic planning and setting technical direction Proven track record driving large-scale, cross-functional data modernization initiatives from concept to delivery Experience influencing enterprise architecture, data governance, and/or product strategy across multiple teams or domains Strong systems thinking and ability to balance business value, technical feasibility, and user experience in design decisions Executive presence and storytelling ability to simplify complex architecture for senior audiences Strong understanding of modern data architecture patterns (data mesh, data products, event streaming, AI/ML enablement) Demonstrated experience designing cloud-native systems with a focus on scalability, resilience, and security Deep knowledge of data governance, metadata management, lineage, and quality practices at scale This position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid (known internally at Target as "Flex for Your Day") work arrangement based on Target's needs.  A Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at a Target location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.  A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member's core role may be performed either remote or onsite at a Target location depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
